Nambour Cricket Club offers a range of cricket programs that cater for juniors from 5 to16 years of age. Our junior programs aim to teach the children how to play cricket in a fun and engaging way to develop not only skill levels, but also a passion for cricket.

Programs available

The Junior Blaster program for 5 to 7 year olds and the Master Blaster program for 8 to 10 year olds are skill based programs that teach the basics of cricket, predominately using a games based approach. These programs are highly engaging and help children learn how to bat, bowl, catch and throw all in a supporting non-competitive environment.

Junior Blasters-Registration fee is $99 for the 8 week program commencing on Friday 19th October and finishing on 30th November.Qld cricket will provide a Junior Blaster pack for each participant, usually consisting of among other items a shirt, bat and hat in a back pack.

Master Blasters-Registration fee is $120.This program will be incorporated with the Sunshine Coast Cricket Associations under 10 competition played on Friday nights under lights rotating between 3 different clubs grounds.Participants will be part of the Nambour team and will receive a club playing shirt and cap.All other equipment is provided.Season starts on Friday 18th October starting usually at 6pm through to 8pm.There is a break over the Christmas school holidays and will finish up on 6th March 2020.

Junior club cricket begins with the Under 11s and goes all the way up to Under 16s. These competitive competitions are part of the SCCA competition, where Nambour teams compete against children from other clubs. These teams generally consist of a mid-week training session, before a game, predominately held on Saturday mornings.

Club volunteers

Nambour Cricket Club is run entirely by volunteers. Every parent of a junior cricketer should be prepared to take on a volunteering role in some capacity. At a team level, every season we need coaches and coach assistants, managers, scorers and helpers. Without these roles being filled, teams simply cannot exist. Therefore, support from parents/relatives to fill these roles is vital. Training courses are available should you require to learn how to do these roles. Obviously some roles require more effort than others, however volunteers are needed to fill these roles in every team.

At a club level, volunteers work in the canteen and behind the scenes on the committee. More volunteers are always welcome in these roles. If you are able to assist in any capacity, please speak to the Junior Coordinator when registering your child to play cricket.

Junior training is run by team coaches after school during the week. Attending training is compulsory as it is where coaches teach children how to develop their game and to help ensure a more enjoyable and successful game play.

Season commencement

The 2019/20 season is scheduled to start on Saturday 5th October with training commencing the first week of September. Games are generally on Saturday mornings, home and away. On the odd occasion some games may be played on Saturday afternoons or Sundays. The juniors play their home games at the Nambour Showgrounds on the #2 oval (turf) and the #3 oval (synthetic).

Junior Blaster and Master Blaster

These programs have been redesigned for the 2018/19 season and are now sponsored by Woolworths. These programs cater for children from just 5 years of age in short fun filled sessions.

Clothing and equipment required

Clothing for the Junior Blaster and Master Blaster are yet to be announced. However, a shirt is usually provided. Children generally wear comfortable shorts (Junior Blaster) or long white pants (Master Blaster) and comfortable running shoes, along with a hat.
For juniors involved in U11s to U16s, their clothing and equipment is slightly different. Once registered, children will receive:
  • a club training shirt, which is to be worn on training days and to and from game days,
  • a club playing shirt, which is to be worn during game play on Saturdays, and
  • a club cap, which is to be worn at all times when outdoors when involved with cricket.

Children are also required to wear white long pants and white cricket shoes, which are to be sourced by parents and are available at most sporting stores. Cricket spikes (shoes) are strongly recommended for children playing on turf wickets (usually only U14 to U16).

For each team, the club provides a full gear kit, which includes pads, bats and helmets. However, should players wish to supply their own gear, that is perfectly fine as well.

Representative cricket

Players from U12 to U16 will have the opportunity to trial for Sunshine Coast representative teams. These trials are generally held around the start of the season. There are additional costs involved for representative players. Information regarding representative trials will be distributed once known.
